Headaches have been a companion of the human race for as long as history has endured. In the present day, with medical science, we are privileged to understand more about them than we once did.

One of the most common complaints about tension headaches is that they are felt on one side of the head, with accompanying pain in the neck, behind the eye, and base of the skull. This type of headache is formally known as cervicogenic headache (i.e. neck-origin headache).

The most common cause of these type of headaches is muscle tension (commonly called trigger points, which refer pain into the head), inflammation of the neck joints and nerve irritation. In most cases, these can be treated with conservative manual therapy (chiropractic & physical therapy).
