New hope for back pain? (TODAY Show)

Now of course most of us can’t get access to this new innovative therapy until it becomes mainstream. So what do we do?

Realize: the brain is like a muscle and can be retrained. There are tools like ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) that are proven scientific methods of doing this.

ACT focuses on accepting the pain and feelings that go with it, and committing to actions that align with your values, helping you move past pain. CBT works by changing negative thought patterns to improve how you feel and act, offering practical strategies to manage pain. For example, thoughts like “I’ll never get better” or “my pain will only get worse” can be self-defeating and make it harder to cope with pain. Try to identify these negative thoughts and challenge them with positive, realistic ones. For example, “I may not be pain-free, but I can still enjoy my life and do the things I love.” Both are scientifically proven and can be powerful tools in your journey towards pain relief.

The best thing to do is to speak to a doctor about this, whether it be your family doctor, one of our chiropractors (Drs. Debo or Selby), or Dr. Zack (our physical therapist). There is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ in dealing with chronic pain! We’re here to support you.
